The Goal – 1 – 13 October at the Courtyard
This is the story of THAT Hereford goal in the 1972 FA Cup against Newcastle (a match that also launched John Motson’s TV career - according to the man himself on Desert Island Discs).
The Goal is a play of the 1970s – a nostalgic, funny tale of the shared football passion of six young teenagers. It’s a tale of the goal that still resonates in football and in the lives of the these Hereford characters.
The staging is simple, but very effective – the large screen backdrop with images of heavily sideburned footballers & more, transports the audience to the time and place, leaving the rest of the stage for the ‘players’ and their story (with special narration from Motty himself).
If you love Hereford, football, the 1970s or even a story of teenagers finding their feet then this warm, funny play is well worth going to see !
