Award-winning landscape designer Peter Dowle is going back to his roots in a new Gloucestershire business venture.
He is launching a one-stop horticultural centre in Huntley on the site of a nursery that his father, Julian, ran in the 1970s and where Peter had his first part-time job.
To begin with, Leaf Creative will just sell plants alongside a new coffee shop but eventually Peter plans to base his design team there and have ‘garden vignettes’ showing planting combinations.
Already there are existing mature borders at the six-acre site on the A40 with some unusual plants, such as Eucalyptus and Acacias. Peter’s trademark Acers, Ferns, large shrubs and specimen trees have now been added.
“It will be a one-stop gardening destination giving you everything from design to planting,” said Peter.
The coffee shop has an ethical ethos with artisan coffee, organic teas and a selection of handmade and vegan cakes. It also serves light lunches.
Eventually, Peter’s existing Howle Hill Nursery site in Ruardean will be used solely for plant propagation and as a base for the landscaping team.
The launch of Leaf Creative follows a busy few weeks for Peter. In September, he worked with Westons Cider and CANNA to create seasonal displays using tonnes of apples at the Malvern Autumn Show and earlier this month he dressed several areas of the Cheltenham Literature Festival, including the restaurant, Hospitality Suite and Writers’ Lounge.
Peter Dowle has won numerous design and construction awards including 14 gold medals at RHS Chelsea and the RHS Malvern Spring Festival.
